So many of our best talents are thinking of ways to move out. Be it doctors, lawyers, scientists or even actors. Many feel to "make it", they simply have to move out from the country. But why? can't they just stay in Malaysia and make it? There must be a good reason for their move.
Decline in Work Motivation
Where rewards are scarce and unfair for works accomplished, motivation to work better gradually diminishes. I am sad that people without university degrees are forever bound by their lower positions. Why not a person who has the experience and skills not be on par with those degree holders? The hardware overrules the software part, unfortunately.
Decline in Quality of Life?
To be yourself. Personal expression without judgement from others. Freedom to love whomever without the boundaries set by religion, race and culture. A decent job with decent pay. Respect and love for each other. Able to grow old without the worries of health and money. To be single and married, as you choose, without pressure from society. Other social issues I've contemplated on:
* Emasculation of the Chinese Male in Media
* The Over Emphasis of Hardware over Software
* How My "Friend" Make Plus-sized Looks Bad
* City Folks' Sitting Culture (BM)
* How to Identify Monsters Anywhere
* Habits of Local Talent (BM)

Decline in Social Integration
I began to understand why certain groups tend to mix only with their own kind - simply because it's safer and more comfortable. You don't risk being judged or ostracized when you act a bit "different". We know when being racial, each race tends to be proud of themselves, of their given rights. It's another kind of war, that does nothing to promote any social integration.

That's where the local term comes in - "dengki", which is hatred or jealousy towards other people. I brought this up because I'm surprised that I have quite a number of Malay friends who recognise me from some commercials and TV dramas I've done. It's not that many titles, but still people recognise me. I am thankful for the recognition for that means my acting made an impression and impact, no matter how small. The other side of this coin is, I also have "haters" who dislikes me. For aspiring artistes, this is what you will experience. You can never expect everybody to like you.
Some people will hate your dressing. The way you walk. Write "hateful" comments on your profile. Think again, it is also a good thing, because that way, you can determine what the "haters" profiles are like. You actually learn more from haters than admirers. The other blessing is - it means we are all humans, including myself. Nobody's perfect and everyone has their weaknesses. Especially for actors, our "weaknesses" are more precious, if you know what they are. Hence, the ability to contemplate and review your own self is truly important. A Hater's Profile
Haters are a group that must divide the lines between you and me. They possess a kind of superiority over something they feel it's their greatest strength. In terms of physique, personally, I stay away from muscular guys. I don't like to look at them, or even be like them, for one, I feel vanity hampers the mind from growing. I am one who values thinking over muscle. Now back to haters, they have the inclination to separate others from themselves. It could be anyone - beautiful or ugly, muscular or chubby.
Could this be another branch of racism? Unfortunately, this is still rampant. 1Malaysia is a concept so many people can see through the holes. Haters made themselves feel they have a just cause to crush other people's ideals, thoughts and human rights. This is the war of the minds. It's no longer a bomb-and-bullets kind of war. But a war to take over your mind and put you in a certain category - so you will function as others seem fit. It is a war over control.
| Decline in Sensational News? |
Hello? Do you still remember who you are deep inside? You are NOT what the local media says who you. You are NOT the brands you wear and bought. You are NOT what others say you are. Then who the hell are you? Only you can find that out. Socrates said "Know Thyself". The reason you're not knowing yourself now is because you are robbed of the opportunity to express your own personal expression. Our hardware system has managed to lock you down into a herd mentality of who you are. Take a look around and identify your own Personal Expression. Is there any? Take fashion shows/displays and all the events I've attended for example:
* Fire-y Dragon Displays
* Christmas 2011 Display
* MaSIF Fashion Review
* Spring/Summer Fashion Display @KLCC
* IFTC Students' Fashion Show @Sungei Wang

Try to smile and stay positive within yourself first. Others can be negative. But you start small, by simply smiling to the person next to you first. Try to have a pleasant expression to others who are different from your profile. Say you are a Malay guy, try to smile with another person different from your own race.
3) Use Your Veto Power
If you see other haters saying degrading things about others or look unkindly on others who are "different" from them in terms of dressing or way of behaving, stand up and voice your disagreement. The least you can do is NOT condone to the haters' bigotry sentiment. Stand firm on your personal freedom (you still have it), use your right to uphold the personal freedom of others too. If you see an ad, brand or TV show that is promoting social bigotry, turn it off. If you have a neighbor who gives you the "you're thrash"-look, look and stay away from them. Action speaks louder than words.
4) Love More
Haters are the way they are because of their insecurities of themselves. They could be a victim of other haters in the group who pushes them to do so. If you're a hater and reading this, you can turn things around. Simply love yourself more. When you love yourself for who you are, then you will discover that you are just as "weak" as other people. Other people's own "shortcomings" are more understandable because you are not perfect yourself. Then why waste energy on hate? Love conserves energy and multiplies more energy. Hate others, and you actually end up hating yourself more.
5) Think Big
A lot of us are troubled by our own family problems. By nagging relatives. By pestering mothers or fathers who demands us to give allowances. Why the trouble? The solution is to think big. Think beyond providing just your immediate family and relatives. You are part of a larger society. Speak out, and articulate your feelings. Bring them out to the light, and see how bias or fair you sounds. You could be a Hater yourself.
6) Get Re-Educated
There's one incident I encountered at KL Sentral recently where a properly dressed office clothed guy (quite a tall Indian man with a bulging tummy, in his 40s) followed me around quite strangely. He finally stopped me to enquire something about my bag, but suddenly he turned and hurled all sorts of curses and accusations at me on the spot in front of other passers-by! I should have turned him away when he first approached me, but due to my open nature, I gave him my attention which turns out to be a mistake. After he went amok (he's probably have mental problems), I quickly ran way. This is a true story, and another sign of how our society is declining badly. That man looked like a professional and well-educated from his clothes, but what made him turned so ugly? He probably thought he has achieved something already in his life, and people around him owed him something. Or maybe there's too much stress in life and work, hence he gave up learning. But life never stops after you graduated and got a job. It's a continuous learning process. A good Communications Strategy Coach will do you even more good like preparing you for (sample tips here):
